1How you been?
2Fine, and you?
1To be honest...not great.
2What's going on?
1A friend of mine asked me a hypothetical question and I can't stop thinking about it.
2What’s the question?
1If you were about to be cast on a deserted island and could only take one book what book would you choose?
2That's easy! The Bible.
1That's what I said.
2But....I can hear a but in your tone.
1But (s)he said that the Bible is actually sixty-six books and I can only choose one.
2What? But it's been published as one book since King James ruled England!
1I know…but(s)he said I have to choose one.
2I can see your dilemma.
1Which book would you choose?
2Hmmm...I don't know. They're all good. I suppose it should focus on Jesus. He's the centre of Christianity.
1So one of the Gospels? Which one?
2I love Matthew. He really highlights Jesus as the Messiah. The phrases Son of David, Son of God, King of Kings, and the King of the Jews really lift Jesus up as the hope.
1True.
2But Mark records so many miracles. Jesus is the Miracle Worker. Everyone needs a miracle.
1Especially if you've just been left on a deserted island. But what about Luke. He was a doctor and really emphasized Jesus' humanity.
2Such an important point. Some days I really need to know that Jesus understands my limitations. Then there's John.
1"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." Best opening sentence of any book I ever read.
2Yeah he established Jesus as the Son of God.
1The only begotten Son of God.
2The Lamb of God.
1The Bread of Life
2The Good Shepherd
1The Resurrection and the Life.
2And so we come to Acts...it's all about the Ascended Lord.
1Right. Without the physical resurrection of Jesus our hope is mute.
2True. But I don't know if I could live without Romans...
1It's logical. Like a manifesto.
2It reveals how Jesus justified us to himself...made us right in God's eyes.
1Love it! Paul’s letters come next…
21 and 2 Corinthians should be considered one book...
1So much in them. Paul points to Jesus as the Last Adam...no more death
2And as the First Fruits...everyone gets eternal life.
1What about Galatians...
2Jesus sets us FREE! Ephesians...
1Christ full of riches...which he shares with us. Philippians...
2Jesus name above all names. Colossians...
1The Head of the Body…and we're part of the Body. Christ in me! 1 and 2 Thessalonians...
2Oh that's easy, The soon and coming King. 1 and 2 Timothy...
1The Mediator between God and man. Titus?
2Jesus is our blessed hope. And Philemon calls Him the friend closer than a brother.
1That would help with the isolation and loneliness of deserted island living. But I love Hebrews...it's so mysterious ... No one knows who wrote it.
2Again so logical. It's such a great book because it ties in all the Old Testament law and shows how Jesus fulfilled it.
1Jesus blood. The power to wash away sin.
2James is short and a little snarky..
1Yeah but he calls Jesus the Great Physician.
2Good one. 1 and 2 Peter is full of good stuff too. I really like how we're all being built together as living stones..
1And Jesus is our Chief Shepherd. That brings us to 1,2,3 John…God is LOVE!
2I love John. Then there’s Jude.
1Short and sweet. Would be easy to memorize.
2Yeah, I love the phrase in verse 25...The only wise God, our Saviour.
1Revelation is next....hmmmm Don't know if I'd want that one.
2But it's full of enigmas and metaphors. It would take a life time to even begin to scratch the surface.
1I guess. And it really does declare Jesus as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
2Yep, on every page
1But we haven’t even touched on how Jesus is woven through every book in the Old Testament.
2I know. And I’m not sure I could live without Psalms and Proverbs.
1Yeah. Proverbs would help keep a record of days. But how should I answer my friend?
2I know! Bring the biggest Bible you own and ask him to try and tear it into separate books!
1Ha! That’s a great idea!
