“Tedious, I know you’re in there. We must talk.”
Curious whispers hissed throughout the damp cavern.
Perched upon a rock, Tedious peered through his reptilian eyes at the unwanted visitor. In a chilling tone, he answered. “What is it this time Chaos? I was hoping to never see you again.”
Chaos scoffed as he lumbered across the slimy floor of the cavern on claw like feet. “You’ll never be so lucky. All the fallen angels must labor under my heavy hand until we’re all cast into the pit, and that includes you…or did you forget?
Tedious flashed a menacing glare as Chaos approached him. “I wish I could forget the erroneous decision to place you in any position of authority.”
Gaseous vapors puffed from Chaos’ flared nostrils as he towered over Tedious. “Whether you like it or not my most lowly esteemed Tedious, it is I who have been given important instructions from the great commander: we’ve been assigned the task, to once again, carry out an attack against the Smith couple.”
“Smith couple?”
“Yes, you must remember them. They are one of the couples we lost to because of prayer.”
Tedious gazed quizzically into space. “You mean the ones we almost caused to divorce because of the man’s addiction to gambling, but they battled us by prayer, attended Christian counseling, and are now marriage counselors themselves?”
“No, not them”.
Tedious scratched his horny nose. “Well then you must be referring to the couple we caused to lose their home, their jobs, and almost their marriage, but they turned to God in prayer, and are now missionaries?”
Chaos sneered. “No. Not them either, you loquacious twit. They’re the couple, new to their faith, who got caught in the cult we lured them into. Then they prayed for discernment… remember?”
A devious look crept over Tedious’ face as his leathery green skin turned a slightly reddish hue. He mumbled. “Yes, I remember them … they made a mockery of us…”
“Yes- they- did. And now they’re even more of a threat. They’re forming a new ministry which could create great havoc for the darkness. So the commander has ordered another strike against them; but this time, he’s chosen a different approach.”
“What kind of approach? After laboring so hard and yet miserably failing the first time, how can we hope to have any chance of victory now? What great, foolproof plan does our illustrious leader have?” he mocked with sarcasm.
One of our scouts has just learned of a young, attractive woman named Beth who’s just been hired for employment where the man works. Perhaps a good chance for temptation.”
Tedious rubbed his claw like hands together, a sly look slithering over his face. “Aaah seduction... perhaps adultery...” His eyes lit up. “That- might- just- work!” He pointed his long, knobby, index finger up in the air. “But this may be too arduous a task for just one to carry out alone.”
Chaos grunted. “You’re right, for once. You’re too incompetent to do things on your own. That is why Discontent and Seduction, and perhaps a few others, will assist you in the mission.
Tedious moaned. “Oh no, not those two. The darkness received a serious blow last time those two nincompoops were involved. I can already foresee ruinous consequences. Like it’s happened before: one holy prayer and poof, we’ll all be fleeing like panicked bats trying to escape.” He slumped in despair.
“Get off your rock you lazy lizard and quite whining. We have orders from our leader. You have no choice but to do everything possible to foil the Smiths’ ministry. They’re too great a threat for us to allow them to go any further.”
Wearily, Tedious nodded his head.

That evening Mark and Susan Smith had a celebration dinner for a special guest.
“Congratulations Little Sister. I can’t believe you finally got hired on at Evangelism Ministries,” Mark exclaimed.
Susan chimed in. “Yeah, and what a blessing you two get to finally work together, brother and sister, what a great team!
Beth beamed at both of them. “Thanks, you guys for all your support. I really feel God’s hand on all of this, and I can’t wait to get started. He’s so good and is answering all our prayers. “
