Where I’m supposed to fit exactly
To complete the big picture of
Way more than a thousand pieces
Is anyone searching in the dark, under something heavy,
Behind a curtain where I might have been dropped
Or been blown by fierce storms or stepped on
And dumped in the trash?
Am I part of the border that interlocks
To keep the whole together or a funny shape
Designed for the middle surrounded on all sides
By many almost like me, but so different?
Am I worth the search to complete the image
Of a man unknown to ignorant masses
But reviled just the same (except by others on the table
Who wait with glorious anticipation?)
Will my space stay vacant and leave a hole in His heart,
Or eye, or beside the pierced one in His side?
Am I worth the quest to join the saved as we illustrate
How piece by piece we form a portrait of the body of Christ?
Are there believers on their knees looking for me to fill
That one special place…my destiny, my eternity?
Or, do I stay un-found, perhaps swept under the rug
Or disregarded for my worn and shabby looks?
Can someone please stop and pick me up
And really look and see how I belong in that blessed link,
That holy connection to God’s family of parts
Which develops into the beautiful embodiment of Truth?
Or…am I forever lost and forgotten?
