These days had been long coming, but soon, rather than make sneak attacks on David, Mnx could openly challenge every aspect of the human’s life. The bragging rights alone made Mnx quiver in anticipation. How envious its fellow demons would be!
The latest conquest of David came with Mnx’s urging that David vote with the majority. He served on the Board of Elders at his church and the issue of allowing homosexuals to lead in ministry positions had become extremely controversial. David had hesitated to support the motion, but Mnx persuaded him through a continual barrage of chance encounters with leftwing activists. It arranged repeated exposure to progressive online blogs. The writings ripped at David’s heart with stories of the hurt that gay Christians endured when shunned for leadership positions. David fell for it, and to Mnx’s delight, the leadership decision sowed seeds of distrust. They sprouted into widespread gossip among the dissenters. Mnx counted it a true victory with the inevitable church split.
Mnx discerned that David’s work-related trip to India would provide the final push in taking him down and began preparations. It alerted Mnx’s associate, Spltz, to the upcoming occasion. After all, Mnx was a team player when benefits would accrue its way.
David’s many hours on the flight proved invaluable. Mnx manipulated people and schedules to arrange for one of Master’s warlocks to sit next to David. The conversation between the two men turned to religion, as Mnx watched in awe at how devious the man was with his words. The warlock succeeded in bringing doubt to David’s confused faith by using the old saw that he couldn’t answer: “Why does God allow good people to die?”
David fumbled for a response. In return, the warlock made the case that God wasn’t as all-powerful as He claimed. Mnx observed David’s uncertainty increase. He was ready!
India assaulted David with its vibrant colors, its sweet and sickening scents. He told Raj, his new coworker, “I wasn’t prepared for this.”
The day after acclimation from jetlag David plunged into his work. That evening Raj suggested, “Let’s do dinner and entertainment.” After spicy curry and too many beers, David and his friends entered the tiny quarters of a palm reader. Incense rose from multiple brass censers around the room, creating a purple haze. Hanging silks fluttered from the walls. David sat in the client chair.
Their host welcomed him. “You have not been to such a place before?”
Perspiration beaded on David’s temple as he shook his head.
“Give me your hand.” Spltz’s whisperings into the reader’s mind brought forth many revelations of David’s life.
When all had been told, David sat back in his chair. “You have a true gift.”
Mnx knew that David had opened the door to its malevolent ministrations. It snuck right in, settling down for the ride.
The troubles began for David when his two children became ill with symptoms that doctors couldn’t diagnose. His wife developed severe depression. Their financial situation turned ugly when the stock market plunged. The congregational split left David feeling guilty. Several of his church friends wrote him off. His life became a shambles that he couldn’t understand. Mnx enjoyed every minute of it and planned additional surprises to ruin David’s life.
At work, which hadn’t gone well of late, David mentioned his problems to a coworker at lunch. Mnx hoped to turn this admission into an affair, but the woman ruined its plans. “Have you considered a Jezebel spirit may be causing this?”
Mnx jumped up and down shouting, “No!”
David said, “No, but how could I tell?”
“Remember Jezebel, the high priestess of Baal?” His friend suggested different methods of spiritual attacks, including palm reading, which released demonic access.
“What can I do?”
Mnx tried to divert David, but the woman’s Godly spirit was strong. “Repent, and place yourself and family under the blood of Jesus.”
David went home that night and did just that. While visiting his children in the hospital, their health miraculously recovered. Soon, every aspect of David’s life began improving.
Mnx recoiled in horror as light invaded and thrust it out.
