strapped to his chest
Boom … Boom … Boom
Three 40-caliber slugs ripped through blocks of chocolate covered heart
pierced flesh
punctured labored lungs
exited
his back
before rest near a black family van
just
that
fast
The father of three
type 1 diabetic children
a son and two daughters
ages seven
eight
and eleven
crumpled to the ground
in the wakes of
Boom … Boom … Boom
He knew sugar killed
Yet
This wasn’t the plan
blood pooled pavement
cooled quickly
in the parking lot
of the TV news
cameras trained on
eyelids quivering
lips failing
fluid filled passages
gurgling
Boom … Boom … Boom
Faded thoughts
I love you
I’m sorry
disappeared
in echoes’ … of
The Five O’clock News
This morning an armed security guard shot …
just
that
fast
Chocolate candy bars wrapped in wires
looked like a bomb
strapped on his chest …
The real story died
Boom … Boom … Boom
