When life gets dark and dreary;
A place of rest when I’m discouraged,
Worn away and weary.
A lovely place that I can see,
When I close my eyes;
Nobody can hurt me there,
With anger and with lies.
A place where Jesus smiles on me;
Where Angels hover near,
Where battered hearts are mended,
And no one sheds a tear.
I get there when I kneel and pray,
And bow my tired head;
Anxiety just drains away,
Along with fear and dread.
Money they can take from me
My good name they can smear,
My virtue can be stolen,
In this life down here,
But Jesus bought a place for me,
I can see it in my mind;
I can go there every day,
Even if I’m blind.
He bought it on the day He died
To pay for all my sins;
In the battle for my soul,
My Lord Jesus wins.
