So soft we hardly perceive it,
Breathing our names in repeats;
Confirming His lovingkindness,
Exclaiming, while it entreats.
In crashing waves, in dancing leaves,
His muffled voice filters through:
“Harken to My voice and listen—
I’m all about loving you.”
Refreshing raindrops, dew-drenched grass
Softly proclaim His presence;
Summoning, seeking, revealing,
Exuding holy essence.
A stubborn flower rising up
Between the thorny briers,
Plants hope within our stony hearts
That miracles inspire.
The Father calls out through it all:
“Be still and know I am here”;
A bubblebath soothing our hearts,
Washing away all our fear.
When midnight whispers up morning,
When moon addresses the stars,
When dewdrops wink at the sunbreak,
When shadows peek from afar.
Claps of thunder, tsunami winds,
Clouds, stormy—up in black skies
Harshly announce God’s great power
Blinding our ignorant eyes.
Silent snowflakes, each so diff’rent,
Icy sleet pounding the ground;
Gentle breezes tickling the air,
While whirlwinds echo around.
His still, small voice all refreshing—
Like dew in the rustling grass—
A bird chirps off in the distance,
Its wings arched up like a mast.
Hearing His voice in all of these,
Straining to shut out the world;
Marveling at His creation
Where butterflies’ wings unfurl.
Listen! Can you hear it?
We hear it through a grandma’s hug
Or in a mother’s embrace,
A missionary’s sacrifice
Or a neighbor’s smiling face.
A sleeping baby’s milky breath,
A child’s unguarded laughter;
The praises of His prayerful saints,
The sermons of a pastor.
The flutter of an angel’s wings
Dressed in the guise of stranger,
The rainbow’s promise through the clouds,
His birth in lowly manger.
The healing touch of miracles,
A friend’s sympathetic tear,
A sinner’s cry of repentance
While convicting conscience clears.
God talks through His Holy Spirit,
Calling and seeking our love;
His Word and daily promises
Messaging down from above.
His blessings reigning over us
While His calls tickle our ears;
Goosebumps forming on our bodies,
Wiping away nagging fears.
The worldly noise muffling His voice,
We strain to diligently hear
His message of agape love
That will never disappear.
God speaks to us everywhere
If we are still to listen;
Blocking out needless distractions,
Making that our ambition.
There’s coming a day of Judgment
When there will be no excuse
For believing in God’s presence—
The evidence so profuse!
The miracle of human life
And nature, is a mission
To show us God’s unfailing voice—
We only have to listen.
”For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20: New International Version (NIV)
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
