to act in ways that bring God glory
willingly and cheerfully
to not let time slip through his fingers
or allow fear to whisper into his ear
never to be caught unprepared
by the thief that comes at night
he resolves daily
to weigh his days, months and years
never to be found wanting
to comb through his words
and root out the false, the flattery and the frivolous
not to wish at the end of his life
he had done something other than what he did
no falling short, no missing the mark
he resolves daily
to feel and to act with love
to be kind wherever and with whomsoever
never to presume his own sins are
less serious, less deserving of God’s frown
but to hunt down what is not peaceable
generous and patient and
crucify it with Christ
he is resolves daily
never to pray a prayer
that he doesn’t believe God will answer
for the days when he falls
those dull days
when he finds himself empty of resolution
he waits till he finds himself
and then repents and
resolves anew
eight days shy of two hundred years after
the day Jonathan Edwards dies
My life begins
What will I resolve?
