The unlimited imagination of God was everywhere, uncontainable. He thought, and it was. He commanded, and all rushed to obey. He pointed a finger, and it was done. He spread His arms and His presence filled every valley, each mountaintop, every millionth inch of all creation.
Humanity was yet to be but always in His plans as He continued preparing the world. Ten thousand years as a day to Him, time and space were suspended. Five recorded days had passed before the ultimate design. Created out of dust, His meticulous mental sketch was given bones and joints, muscle and veins, blood, skin and hair, the first human shaped into His likeness.
Adam—an image masterpiece of mysterious perfection. This crowning achievement defied description in language only understood by the Three-in-One Godhead of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As God breathed into this first man’s nostrils, he came alive—much like Snow White’s awakening by her prince’s kiss. But this was no fairy tale and a soul was born. Eve was then fashioned from Adam’s rib, a complimentary partner to him, and he to her.
A mere blink of God’s eye could ensure humanity’s complete adoration, worship and service. But God did not want clones or puppets. In His wisdom, he gave Adam and Eve their own will, loving them into an everlasting romance with Him. To be meaningful, the choice had to be theirs. This freedom, however, resulted in their belief in the subtle lies of God’s enemy, Satan, who lured them into damning disobedience. Thus, sin entered the pristine environment and perfection begat imperfection, damaging God’s intentions and sullying all that was created by insidious evil.
Each of us live together on this tiny planet, only an acre of God’s yard, a minute grain amongst millions of celestial bodies created and looked after by Him. In reality, earth is a tiny pinprick impression hanging from invisible threads spun into existence by His perfect will. Nonetheless, Our great God, Who has every one of our hairs counted and Who measure the waters in the hollow of His hand, governs every participle of this world.
How is it that anyone, especially scientists, biologists and physicians who see the intricate wonders of nature and all creation, can question God’s existence? Some even believe the absurdity that the world was boomed into existence by an accidental expanding from intense gravitational pressure, creating nature its inhabitants as insignificant byproducts with no planned design or purpose—when every dew drop, every one-of-a-kind snowflake, grain of sand, or spangled star has His signature on it by its very uniqueness.
Because of original sin and the evil it perpetuates, the consequences of disease, suffering, natural disasters, are allowed to bring us to Himself.
Listen to the story about a barber and one of his customers. Eventually touching on the subject of God in their conversation, the barber declared that he was an atheist because a loving God would not allow bad things to happen. After his haircut, the man left and on his way to his car, saw a dirty and unkempt individual with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard walking down the street. The customer returned to the barbershop, asserting,
“Barbers don’t exist!”
“How can you say that? I’m a barber and I just worked on you!”
“Barbers don’t exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside,” insisted the customer.
“But, barbers DO exist—that’s just what happens because they didn’t come to me,” snapped the barber.
“Exactly!” affirmed the customer. “That’s the point! God, too, DOES exist! Because people do not look to God for help is why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world – God could make a difference, if only people would let him!.”
Make no mistake—our God is in control of His universe and could, at the lift of an eyebrow, destroy it all, bring it all to its knees or give up on us, sinners saved only by the blood spilt for us on the cross by His Son, Jesus Christ. Instead, He has chosen to win each of us to His nail-pierced side.
