Topic: SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER (don’t write about the song) (04/30/15)
Doctors, dentists and mothers propagate a common agenda.

They recommend a decrease of sweets. The intake of too many deserts and sugared drinks are detrimental to health. It is good advice but I find it nearly impossible to follow. I succumb to temptations. Some of my favorites include creamy chocolate candy, hot fudge ice cream sundaes, chewy chocolate walnut brownies, gooey pecan pies, apple pie alamode and pumpkin pie with heaping dollops of whipped cream.

I concede to confections.

The pleasure is time released. The onset begins with the introduction of sweets into my line of sight and progresses to reaching and grasping with fingers, fork or spoon. I then partake as taste buds activate; swallowing, saliva carries each edible down my gullet.

The flavor lingers temporarily on my tongue while the sensation of indulging lodges in my memory. Oh, and if I should happen to get scrumptious goo on my fingers, I lick away incriminating evidence.

The LORD seeks admissible evidence of my sustainable delight in communion with Him. With remorse I confess, private prayer is not as sweet to the soul as chocolate is to the pallet. It should supersede every empty calorie I have devoured.

Daily, he draws me nearer through his written word; sweeter than honey, it satisfies spiritual hunger. I just had a pertinent thought to ponder; urgent prayer needs of others are bitter. Life is not all sugar coated. Even though such intercession is not sweet to my tongue, at the appointed time, the Holy Spirit releases it as a sweet fragrance unto God. To God be all glory and praise!

“Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties (Psalms 141:2-4 KJV).”

Your well written desciption of delectable "goodies" made me want my chocolate snickers bar before I had planned to partake of it...LOL...So, I comment as I munch!

Great segue into a timely message that bears truth and will serve to satisfy all of our core needs, to be in commune with our Lord our God. Amen.

You've put a new picture in my mind when I think of the sweet hour of prayer, yum--like honey was to all of those Old Testament folks is a chocolate truffle to me. You've crafted a clever, yet powerful, entry. Great job. Thanks!

Deliciously written...sorry, couldn't resist. Great devotional. Time spent with the Lord is much sweeter than any gooey concoction that I could possibly come up with BUT sometimes I forget that. Thanks for the reminder; thoroughly enjoyed reading this.
