Moments passed with nothing said,
Her heart’s in a desert of fear and regrets
So parched, so dry, so thirsty
Restless thoughts and fidgets come
Longing for peace but finding none
Feeling that something is still undone
Lord, her heart is so weary.
And she weeps.
Offering up an abundance of needs
Wanting to praise but just murmuring pleas
Would He hear if she got down on her knees,
Shook her fist in the air or cried, “Help me?”
Tired from seeking a touch of His hand
Closeted alone, she’s done all she can
Call, His word says, it’s part of my plan
I’ll hear and answer. Will you trust Me?
So she waits
While waiting she hears the faintest whisper
“I alone give of life’s full measure”
In the stillness comes a thrum of pleasure
He is here! He is near! Sweet relief.
Rest assured, He is still heeding
Joined with those who in quiet keeping
Find communion in the meeting
And are granted the peace they seek.
So she listens.
He knows all before the asking
Hearts serene grasp joy that’s lasting
In the prayer and in the fasting
All that’s needed He will be.
Not an hour, nor a minute
But frissons of delight are in it
When prayer becomes what He intended
A bounty of love by both received.
And she rejoices.
