She considered trying to turn off her tracking device, somehow, but thought better of it. She hadn't heard of anyone even attempting it before. Was it even possible? Would it somehow end her life instantly? Would it send a distress signal?
Sara whispered the very words that had gotten her into trouble. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging." Sara ran to the rhythm of the words. Even if they were recording her, she couldn't get herself in any more trouble than she was already in, so why worry?
Bibles were banned, but Sara had kept one hidden. It was the one her parents had dedicated to her the day she was born, when Bibles were still allowed. She kept it hidden all these years, committing much of it to memory.
The government had been on to her for months, with its constant tracking. The president recently reported that the Climate and Environmental Task Force (CETF)was close to perfecting weather control, and with these advancements, it was declared there was no longer any need for God. Sara could take it no longer. She went to the center of the capital city where the president was giving a press conference, explaining some of the details of the new weather control devices. She took a deep breath, and shouted it out, loud enough for everyone to hear. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging." She was surprised she wasn't shot by the snipers immediately, but figured they must have wanted to make a public spectacle of her. Perhaps the plan was to capture and torture her first, so others wouldn't think they would get away with an "easy" death. So she did the only thing she knew to do. She ran.
Now Sara was convinced they were using psychological warfare against her. She had been on the run for three days. Why was she still allowed to run, while she could constantly hear the drones? What were they waiting for? A moment of weakness? Surrender? She knew one thing. She would not recant her faith, and His words would be on her lips with her last breath.
She slowed her pace and listened. Silence. Were they... gone? She took some deep breaths. "Lord, I know you are in control of everything, no matter what others may say. Protect me, and allow me to declare Your glory with whatever time I have left." She finally dared to stop. She found a bed of leaves, and as she lay down, the unrelenting sun and heat let up. Clouds suddenly rolled in. She could feel it; this weather phenomenon was not a CETF experiment. Though she knew it would not last forever, Sara found peace in the rain.
