Pink like the bloom of her mother’s cheeks,
Had sat many years on her kitchen shelf.
There it observed all that went on in her home
And was a daily reminder of the blessed times
She and her mother spent together at the kitchen table.
Mother would sip hot coffee from this, her favorite cup,
And she would cradle it in her hands
As the coffee cooled while they talked.
Their conversations would take a winding path—
Stories from her mother’s childhood
And shared reminiscences from her own,
To a discussion of the cares of the day,
Problems of their family and friends,
Their joy in accomplishments
And the anticipation of celebrations.
Her mother would speak from her deep faith
Of lessons learned through spiritual guidance,
And she would advise her with godly counsel.
Then they would bow their heads,
And with clasped hands,
Send their prayers to God’s throne.
But now . . .
With one careless move on her part,
She had knocked the beloved cup and saucer
To the unyielding tile floor,
Where it lay in a heap of scattered fragments.
As she sat in sorrowful contemplation
Over the loss of her treasure,
A peace began to settle, like a warm woolen shawl,
Over her troubled spirit.
She was filled with a consciousness
That all the reminders from her cup and saucer
Were still intact in the depths of her heart,
Stored safely within her hoard of memories—
The touch of her mother’s hands,
As well as her wonderful stories and wise advice.
Circling above her were the praise and pleas
They’d offered up to all-caring God.
Deep inside her feeling of comfort was her hope,
Unable to be broken—
That she would hold again her mother’s hands
And converse with her heaven.

Wonderful poem.
Amazingly, it flowed so well, that it didn't seem choppy at all. You would think that if you wrote our a poem in paragraph format that it would come across as disjointed and confusing, but it wasn't until I read the comments that I realized it wasn't a normal story. :)
Maybe you'll take that as a criticism, but I thought it was a wonderful testimony to how smooth your writing was here.
Your point was wonderful as well, acknowledging how closely we tie our memories of a person to an item, but knowing that who they really are to you is the wisdom and love they imparted over the years...and that's something you'll never lose.
