"This is what people think will help them?"
"Ha ha, I guess so!"
Both intruders were very large men and were high. Emma couldn't determine if it was liquor, drugs, or both. Clearly, they were flying on something. Their actions were deplorable and inexcusable. The conjecture on Emma's part ended when she saw them take a swig from a large bottle of whiskey. The redhead, the taller of the two, continued laughing and then slumped to the ground.
"You think you can protect people? Hah! You're an invisible God. You got some people fooled, but not us." He pointed back and forth between he and his friend. "Right Fred?"
"Yea, what the? Nothing going on here. Where's the miracles?" The lanky giant named Fred answered. "Johnny, let's do our thing!"
After their uproarious laughter subsided somewhat, the two of them began a symphony of belching, accompanied by various bodily function sounds...while mocking God.
Emma's heart slammed against her chest. Her slim hands clenched into fists so tightly her deeply embedded fingernails drew blood.
She was momentarily paralyzed as her green eyes popped wide taking in the horrific scene. She was all alone, it was dark in the church, and yet she was seemingly transfixed watching in distaste, until Fred started sloshing liquor on the cross while Johnny laughed himself sick.
Emma didn't think, she just responded by running to the inebriated men, and screamed, "Stop! How dare you? You're in a house of God! Get out of here right this minute. Get out!" Her tiny frame faced the two drunkard and disorderly giants, her chest heaving and her face flushed. "How dare you? How dare you?"
Fred said, "Wow, a little spitfire in the church. How lucky can we get?"
She stood her ground, "Get out of here, and don't you dare touch me. Get out of here, NOW!"
They laughed and slowly walked toward her, clearly their intentions weren't honorable, their lust filled eyes told the story. When they got near her they dropped the whiskey bottle and stared wide-eyed as their mouths dropped.
Emma didn't know what happened. She never thought of what the consequences might be, by confronting them. She just reacted and went wild charging toward them. But, now, she stood, puzzled by their reactions.
"Er, I'm going. I'm sorry..."
"Yea, we're going...let's get outta here!"
She watched them turn and run like scared rabbits as they scurried out the front doors. She dropped to her knees thanking God for sending them away.
Emma never realized what happened. No, Emma never did see the army of angels surrounding her as the Lord commanded them to do on that incredible and miraculous day.
But Johnny and Fred learned all about God and His powerful ways that particular evening...
