Cookies.
Baking.
In the car!
This was so much better than making cookies or even her baking of the scones over an air vent experiment. There was no way that her mother was going to be angry for this experiment. She eyed her twin, Stephen, across the front yard. He would be her test subject, to see if the eggs were edible. But, then again, that might be a moot point, anymore; Stephen would eat anything he could get his hands on. But, there was a problem she wasn't sure what temperature would be perfect to make the eggs sizzle and fry.
Anna glanced at the carton of eggs that she 'stole' from the fridge. She had over a dozen eggs to experiment with. She grasped the first egg and padded onto the sidewalk, looking for the hottest spot. She cracked the egg and leaned over, depositing the yolk onto the sidewalk, carefully mimicking her mother’s techniques in the kitchen. Much to her disappointment, it didn't sizzle. If anything, it just kind of oozed there, lazily spreading into a yellowy glob of egg yolk. She made a face before glancing over at her twin again.
Stephen had noticed her and the experiment. Open curiosity marked his face as he trotted towards her. Desperately, she grabbed two more eggs and scooted down the sidewalk and restarted the experiment.
"Whatcha doing, Panda Bear."
Anna rolled her eyes at the nickname before snorting a laugh. "Cooking you a second breakfast, Cub. I can hear your stomach clear across the yard."
Stephen perked up and she smirked. "Can I have whatever you manage to cook?"
"That's the plan, Cub." She eyed the two eggs. One was starting to sizzle and Anna bounced up on her toes, excitedly. It was working.
Stephen glanced at the single egg and started to pout. "Is that all you’re gonna make?"
She huffed. "This isn't like the scones I made a few months ago, you’re gonna get what you’re gonna get," She fired back with a grin and a wink.
He laughed and Anna looked at the egg again. "Go get the fork and plate from the porch. It's almost done." She crowed. Stephen blinked before moving quickly to follow her instructions. He noisily pounded up the steps.
"Anna! Stephen!" Her mother's voice echoed from inside their home. "What are you two doing?"
"Nothing, Momma!" The twins chorused, even as their mother emerged onto the porch. Their mother’s eyebrows went up into her hair line as she took in the evidence of Anna's experiment: the eggs, the discarded shells, and the most condemning of them all, Stephen happily eating a fried egg. Her mom gave the two of them a sharp look and Anna just knew she was good as grounded for the next few weeks.
