(John 21:15-17)
An early memory is the day
With young simplicity
I first heard Jesus clearly say
‘My child will you, love me?’
My fervent heart responded ‘Yes’,
To love saving, real, true.
And quickly answering did confess
‘I will, I will love you.’
But then I played, my teenage choice
Was carefree gaiety.
And only faintly came His voice
Saying ‘Do you love me?’
Hectic adulthood, dawn till night
Was crammed activity
Blurring, obscuring, His true Light
That asked, ‘Do you love me?’
And I unheeding, with full hand,
Grasped daily gifts from Him,
Aspiring t’wards my ways, my plans,
His question had grown dim.
But God in mercy showed me when,
Through darkening clouds of care
That as I, sinking, called out , then
He heard my desperate prayer.
‘My child, your wayward path I knew
I’ve waited patiently,
And now I ask again of you
‘My child, will you love me?’
‘Will you now take my nail-pierced hand
Take up your cross daily,
Walk with me to the Promised Land,
And show your love for me?’
My fervent heart responded ‘Yes’,
To love saving, real, true,
And quickly answering did confess
‘I will, I will love you.’
He loved me in my sinful state,
When I was at my worst,
Now I’ll love Him with all my heart
Because He loved me first.

I like the way you take us smoothly from childhood simplicity through to adulthood with it's cares and worries.
On the whole I think this is a lovely poem and fits the topic well!
God Bless~
