and in the half-light of a low and quarter moon,
two old lovers stroll hand in hand, you and I,
through the scent of southern jasmine, while in the distance
the cry of a lonely loon.
in the starfall of a late September night,
we lose ourselves in the long remembered mist
and in the dreams, the greying dreams,
of what might be and what came to be
among all those many magic moments, when we heaven kissed.
in the starfall of a late September night,
we wander through the lighted shadows
as streetlamps cast their opal glow
upon the footsteps that we softly place,
then as we pause ‘side a cottage fence and snatch a single rose.
in the starfall
of a late September night,
our whimsy path is crossed by a cat of calico,
a prowling cat, a neighbor’s cat, a somehow rather friendly cat
that stops to meow, to rub, to even in a way to love,
to sense what brings these human souls
to pass the time, the time when life begins to slow.
in the starfall
of this late September night,
in the whispers of our quiet, thankful sighs,
we feel once more those three-fold ties
that keep us lingering side by side,
to cheat once more our last good-byes.

I think I like how you mentioned the third cord without mentioned WHAT the cord it, but I'm not sure. lol My over-analytical mind keeps trying to tell me it's something else than the obvious. ;)
This was beautiful. I loved the longer last line in each stanza.
