I was standing in the middle of a white room. A room for the crazy? Maybe.
But there was no padding. No windows. No door. There was nothing…but silence.
I stood paralyzed with awe. For how long? I do not know. There was no clock. In fact, there seemed to be no time at all.
“I’m bored.”
The voice was not my own.
I looked down to see a man sitting cross-legged on the ground.
Startled I asked, “How long have you been there?”
The man looked up. His eyes were empty. Emptier than the room we now shared.
Clearly he had been here for a while.
“Why are you bored?”
The man looked around then back at me and, with a heavy sigh, dropped his head into his hands.
I knelt beside him.
"What do you see?"
Again, the man looked up and around until his eyes once more locked with mine.
“Nothing”, he whispered.
My heart sank.
“Do you want to know what I see?” I inquired…not really wanting to know his answer.
“I see paths which haven't been walked.
I see pictures which haven't been drawn.
I see songs which haven't been sung.
I see games which haven't been played.
I see...endless possibilities!”
The man didn't even flinch.
I rose too my feet. Tears welled up in my eyes.
He didn’t see what I saw.
I slowly turned and began to walk away.
I was extremely excited for what lay ahead yet deeply saddened for the man I was leaving behind.
But, after only a few steps, I was quickly overwhelmed and stopped in my tracks by a third emotion.
Fear.
I looked deep into the vast realm of questions which stood before me.
I looked back at the lonely man, with no answers, who sat behind me.
And...
...I ran.
Faster than I’d ever run before, I entered into an unfamiliar world full of endless possibilities, driven by an even greater fear than that of the unknown.
The fear of having empty eyes.
I choose to live…not just be alive.
I awoke from my dream with a message to share:
When you see nothing that stands out…you are in front of something outstanding!
For it is an outstanding opportunity for you to make something that stands out!
