When her sweet Joe was still alive,
Estella needed nothing more,
Than going on their Sunday drive,
To share the joy life had in store.
Estella hated road trips now,
For tucked among the roadside trees,
Were signs and billboards everywhere,
That brought back long lost memories.
She passed a sign for Dairy Bliss,
She always would remember it,
Where she and Joe had their first kiss,
While sharing a banana split.
A billboard for a jewelry store,
That advertised “The Best of Bling”
Was once owned by a family friend,
Who sold Joe her engagement ring.
A picture of a kind, old gent,
“The Real Estate of Roger Sprouse,”
When they could barely pay the rent,
He helped them buy a little house.
A gingerbread, with pickets white,
And flowering beds so snappy,
For them the future seemed so bright,
Their married life was happy.
A billboard for the hospital
Was the next sign that she spied,
The place where Joe first held their kids,
Joe and Estella both had cried.
It was the same hospital where
Joe passed away in ninety-seven.
He told her on the night he died,
“I want you there with me in Heaven.”
She knew throughout her sweet Joe’s life,
He always followed his Savior’s voice,
And though Estella was his wife,
She had never made that choice.
She saw a billboard up ahead,
The message struck her as quite odd,
It was Joe’s favorite Bible verse,
The signage read “With love, From God”
Estella pulled off the highway,
Her heart was moved as she read,
That God sent His own Son to save her,
With gratefulness, she bowed her head.
Her tears blinded her to the traffic,
And so she did not hesitate…
Instantly she was in God’s arms,
And Joe waited for her at the Gate.
