My friend taps my arm and points at the stage
The musicians are tuning their instruments
My fidgeting reveals the anticipation I feel
I sense the room calming around me
The conductor walks to center stage and bows
We join the audience in clapping
The vibrations in my hands quicken my heartbeat
The conductor turns and raises both arms
Hesitating briefly, he makes eye contact with each musician
His arms drop now in synchronized movement
I sense the excitement as the orchestra begins to play
The musicians lean forward and rock
Their wands move up and down across the strings
The horns are lifted high in the air as they blare out their notes
I watch in rapt amazement
The conductor pauses now for a moment
He then lifts his arms high as his chest inhales deeply
Suddenly elbows are flying as the violins work their magic
I can’t look away
The percussion section joins in
With heads bobbing to the rhythm
The musicians hit the kettle drums and bang the cymbals
I feel their beat rising up through my feet
The conductor’s hair is ruffled
His whole body is consumed in the music; he rocks back on his heels
Turning to the side, his right elbow reaches far behind him and then thrusts forward
My body lurches ahead with him
The music softens and his shoulders relax
With one arm he leads the wind section
But he turns again now; his face focused on the next measure
I brace myself for the finale
With great leadership, he points to each section
The musicians rise to the challenge
Heads jerk as arms and fingers work simultaneously
I have a hard time staying in my seat
At last, the conductor raises his arms for the final notes
He holds his wand high in the air as he counts to sixteen
When he drops his arms at the very end
We rise to our feet with thunderous applause
As the musicians stand to bow
We show them our appreciation
The crowd was delighted with the music they had heard
But I, I was blessed to have felt the music in my soul

You wore me out, reading all of this action was a work out. You had me engaged, totally. A great piece of art. I am highly impressed and so glad I did not write a poem this week. I'm rising in applause to this masterful piece, Bravo!
Great job!
