the edges of my mind
feathery intuition sensed
rather than felt
quicksilver thoughts
of subtle perception
drifting, gliding ever closer
toward discernment. . .
I advance. . .
too quickly. . .
it flees; I hold emptiness. . .
A transient scent hovers
just out of reach
an ephemeral reminder
pleasant? poignant? painful?
entices me to comprehend and
extricate the full aroma
of understanding. . .
I inhale. . .
too late. . .
it blows away on an intruding wind. . .
Dreams disturb my sleep
visions explode in my mind
whispering, hinting
begging to be explained
longing for the discovery
of their hidden reality. . .
I awake. . .
too suddenly. . .
their fleeting images disappear into the night. . .
An image shimmers on
the horizon of consciousness
a promise of verdancy, the
expectation of water, cool and clear
the discovery of rich life
in the barren desert of my mind. . .
I run. . .
too slow. . .
it dissipates, a taunting mirage. . .
Rivers of words flow
cascading and swirling, they
long for expression and recognition
yearn to be given a voice
rich with meaning and insight
to apprehend the nugget of truth and
divine the divine. . .
I set pen to paper. . .
too inadequate. . .
too trite. . .
too cliché. . .
I lay my pen aside as inspiration trickles away.
Stillness settles around me like
a warm summer evening
breathing slows, heart relaxes, mind clears
I listen for You. . .
I sit. . .
patiently. . .
reverently. . .
hopefully. . .
and hear Your still, small voice
reveal truth and clarity.
