And with Your breath, decorate
A world with gorgeous rainbow hues,
Starlit canopies, majestic views.
In awe, I read.
Who but You could part the sea
So chosen ones could safely flee,
Promise things not comprehended
By the wayward flock You tended.
Hungry, I read.
Who but You could illustrate
Love thy neighbor--never hate,
Through parables and prophets lips
Your words still anchor sinking ships.
Learning, I read.
Who but You knows all my days
And on the sins I’ll dare to graze,
And though Your eyes will misty be,
You will forgive--even me.
Unworthy, I read.
Who but You could plant a seed
Within a womb for mankind’s need,
Then wrap us in a cloak of grace
Though dirt we’ve kicked into your face.
Repentant, I read.
Who but You could authorize
Scripture’s text, then summarize
Your love in flesh upon a tree,
“To know the Father, first know Me.”
Consumed by love, I read.
Who but You can grant new life
In place of suffering and strife,
Your patient hand holds back the hour
When all the earth will know Your power.
Believing, I read.
