I’ve a sad, sad tale to tell:
to a boy whose name was Jimmy
an awful fate befell.
Jim’s parents and his teachers
all did the best they could
to teach him proper manners
and help him to be good.
But Jimmy was a sullen boy
who never laughed or smiled
he growled and grimaced everyday
he’d get so very riled.
His manners were atrocious
he was rude and impolite
he never listened or obeyed
and always got in fights.
He’d snarl his way through breakfast
while his mother smiled and said,
“Little Jimmy-bear got up today
on the wrong side of the bed.”
And when his father asked him
to do his daily chores
he’d say “G-r-r-r” and stomp away
and slam his bedroom door.
His manners were no better
when he left to go to school
reading, writing, science, math
he’d snarl the whole day through.
He’d growl at other children
when they went outside to play
he’d stamp and throw a tantrum
when he didn’t get his way.
And then one day it happened
catching Jimmy unaware
he gave out a menacing “G-r-r-r”
and changed into a bear!
What sorrow for his mother
what horror for his dad
they wept with grief and sadness
at what happened to their lad.
So boys and girls please listen
your mom and dad obey
do your homework and your chores
be kind at work and play.
Dear children heed my warning
learn a lesson from poor Jim
stop growling and complaining
or you might end up like him!
