How different we were.
We only knew we were in love;
On that we did concur.
And God smiled.
While he liked best the winter days,
I couldn’t wait for spring,
When flowers stretched to reach the sun,
And birds began to sing.
And God smiled.
We married on a summer night
With heat somewhat oppressive.
I really didn’t mind it, but
He found it quite depressive.
And God smiled.
Although I served his dinners warm,
He sometimes coolly spurned them.
While learning how to be a cook,
Quite often I had burned them.
And God smiled.
Then children came to bless our home
And add a new dimension.
We didn’t note the temperature;
They took all our attention.
And God smiled.
Then with the children grown and gone,
We played a little game.
The thermostat that he’d turn down,
I’d turn back up again.
And God smiled.
Down through the seasons hot and cold,
We worshiped God together.
We’d thank Him for our happy home,
Regardless of the weather.
And God smiled.
