Thinking like that is prevalent among believers who do not truly believe that God has forgiven them, loves them, and wants only good for them. They believe the opposite of Romans 8:1:
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus..." (NKJV)
So, the problem is wrong believing. The words in that verse are certain. Paul doesn’t say there is less condemnation or occasional condemnation; he says there is no condemnation. That is the believer's position before God because of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 8:12 (NIV) says:
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Do you believe this Word? If not, you will not experience its benefits.
Simply, yet profoundly put: Jesus took our condemnation upon Himself. On the cross, He bore the punishment our sins deserved. Justice was fully satisfied. When we place our faith in Christ, we are no longer judged according to our failures but according to His perfect righteousness.
This does not mean we never sin. We still stumble, and when we do, the Holy Spirit lovingly convicts us so we will confess our sins and be restored to close fellowship with our Father. Conviction is an expression of God's love. It points us back to Him.
Condemnation is something entirely different. It tells us we are beyond hope. It reminds us of every failure and whispers that God has given up on us. Those thoughts do not come from our loving Father. They come from the enemy, whom Scripture calls "the accuser of the brethren." (Revelation 12:10)
Perhaps you've spent years carrying guilt over something God has already forgiven. You may have confessed it long ago, yet you continue to condemn yourself. If God has chosen to remove your sins "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12), why continue carrying what He has already taken away?
Living free from condemnation does not make us careless about sin. Quite the opposite. When we truly understand the price Jesus paid for our salvation, our hearts are filled with gratitude. We desire to obey Him, not to earn His acceptance, but because we have already received it through Christ.
Every day we have a choice. We can listen to the voice of accusation, or we can stand on the truth of God's Word. The enemy says, "Look at your past." Jesus says, "Look at My cross." The enemy says, "You're guilty." Jesus says, "You are forgiven." The enemy says, "You'll never change." Jesus says, "You are a new creation."
If you are in Christ today, believe what God says about you. You are forgiven. You are justified. You are accepted. You are loved. There is no condemnation hanging over your life because Jesus carried it all.
Walk confidently in His grace. Let go of yesterday's failures and embrace today's mercy. The Judge has become your Savior, and His verdict over your life is settled forever:
"No condemnation."
Prayer
“Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to bear the condemnation that I deserve. Help me to believe Your Word more than my feelings. When guilt and accusation try to overwhelm me, remind me that I am forgiven, accepted, and made righteous through Christ. Teach me to walk each day in the freedom of Your grace, loving and obeying You with a grateful heart. In Jesus' Name, amen.”
