Well, yes, but he was pursuing me.
My heart had a tight lock on it.
For I longed for another.
We'd had a friendship for several years.
He'd sent mixed signals, and so, I hoped for more.
And now this, with someone I'd known since junior high.
I called him one day, needed a ride to communiy college.
He acquiesed.
Then the first day of that spring semester our acquaintance renewed.
Multiple days of riding together blossomed it into friendship.
But then, he was feeling more and my heart wasn't ready, locked tight.
One day after a talk on the phone, he had a red rose delivered to me with a note.
It said, "I sensed you were down after our talk. I hope this cheers you up."
The lock weakened a little.
A few months later he wrote me a beautiful letter, hinting at love.
The lock weakened a little more.
Then came the day of another letter declaring his love.
The lock opened wide and fell to the floor.
I accepted and returned his love.
A year and a half later we married on a beautiful June day.
We had over thirty-two years together before Jesus called him home.
I look forward to seeing him again one day, when Jesus someday, calls me home.
