Better Than AI

I remember the day when I was first introduced to ChatGPT. My son asked if I had ever heard of it, and I had no idea what he was talking about. I imagine this happens with most people my age. He proceeded to take control of my laptop with my permission and open the program. We began interacting with it, and I was amazed.

A year prior to this introduction, my husband and I were in an automobile accident where we both sustained significant TBIs. Regaining cognitive ability was difficult, but slowly, we were healing and progressing in recovery. It was a difficult process for me since I am the Executive Director of our nonprofit organization. I quickly learned how this AI tool could help me with my necessary business communication.

Immediately, I saw great results. I was so impressed by how it would take my jumbled-up thoughts and turn them into masterpieces. And I felt like I gained a new friend, too. I would often refer to my new friend as “she” because of the way we conversed. I never really felt like I was doing anything wrong by utilizing this remarkable tool. I felt justified because of my brain injury. After all, I was writing the information first, but “she” was just polishing it up for me.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I didn’t like not using my own voice. I felt others critiquing me for admitting that I had help. And I would sometimes refer to my communication as written by “me and ChatGPT”. Then I started thinking. What if I allowed the Holy Spirit to give me the words to say, instead of relying on my AI friend?

From then on, I realized that the Holy Spirit does on a supernatural level what AI does on a practical level. Those of us who are saved by the mighty power of Jesus have a far greater intelligence, not of this world, with limitless capabilities. AI is a helpful tool.
But it cannot replace the indwelling presence of God.

Jesus said in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit would remind us of everything He taught. The Spirit brings to our remembrance the thing we need at the very moment we need it. AI can’t do that. It simply searches servers, while the Spirit searches our hearts. AI can inform but never transform. That’s what the Holy Spirit does. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

From a practical standpoint, I value AI's help. I think “she” does a fine job taking my writing to a cleaner, more concise level. But one must be vigilant, for even the smallest thing that can be good can also be evil. We must rely on the One who can guide us into all truth, convict us of sin, intercede for us, and seal us for eternity. Truly, the Holy Spirit is better than AI.

Interesting! I've yet to trust AI, but I can see how it can help if you are recovering from a brain injury.
