“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
In a courtroom, everything rests on the judge’s final word. The room holds its breath. The future hangs in the balance. One declaration can change everything.
Scripture tells us that, apart from Christ, we stand guilty before a holy God. We are not imperfect in small ways; we are totally separated from Him. The evidence of sin is undeniable. We cannot defend ourselves with good works, intentions, or religious effort. Yet, through faith in Jesus Christ, God speaks a verdict over our lives: “Righteous.”
Paul the Apostle reminds us in Romans that we are “justified freely by His grace.” Freely means it is not earned, not negotiated, and not achieved through striving. “Justified.”
This does not mean we suddenly become flawless. It means God declares us right in His sight because Christ has borne what we deserved. The penalty was paid at the cross. The debt is no longer ours to carry. What follows that verdict? Peace.
It is not a fragile peace based on performance. It is not a temporary peace dependent on feelings, but peace with God: a settled standing. The striving can cease. The fear of rejection can quiet. The shame that once whispered accusations has lost its authority.
When the enemy tries to rehearse your failures, remember: the verdict has already been rendered.
When your heart condemns you, remember: justification is a declaration, not a feeling.
When you feel unworthy, remember: you were never justified because you were worthy; you were justified because Christ is worthy.
Today, rest in the finished work of Jesus. Stand in the grace that He has given. Let the truth settle deep in your spirit:
You are not waiting for God’s approval; in Christ, you already have it.
Prayer:
“Father, thank You for declaring me righteous through Jesus. When I am tempted to measure myself by my failures, remind me of Your verdict. Help me to live from a place of peace, not strife. Let gratitude shape my obedience, and let my confidence anchor my faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
