A member of his small church on Tsab was dying of an extremely rare blood infection. Since he was a Christian, no one on Tsab wanted to help, Myron asked himself how a society advanced enough for space travel could be so bigoted While Myron wasn’t a doctor he knew that the felinoids on each planet had nearly identical biologies.
His congregant had a blood type of R* and he knew that it was a relatively common blood type on Qlag. The trick was getting someone to see past the ancient rivalries to donate enough blood for the cure. He had already asked Kurn, the leader of the church he had planted on Qlag if anyone in the church had the right blood type.
A match had been found, the only problem was the potential donor was a widow named Yelhsa who lost her husband during the latest war between the planets. He would have to try and encourage her with the Scripture without guilting her into helping.
Myron knew he could use the classic Christian arguments forgive those who have wronged you, but he felt guilty at the thought of using them in such a manipulative way against a widow. But should he let the new convert die to assuage his feelings? The answer to that question was as plain as the controls in front of him. He decided to pray that the Holy Spirit would guide his request of Yelhsa. Qot’s life depended on his prayers.
Myron was met at the landing area by Kurn who had brought Yelhsa along while not telling her why she was coming out. Myron greeted them Qlag style with as loud a roar as he could manage. They roared back and Myron got in the groundcar with the two Qlag.
Looking Yelhsa in the eye, Myron asked, “I’m going to ask you a big favor. There’s no shame in admitting you need to think about it.”
Yelhsa’s voice was the quietest he’d ever heard on Qlag, “ Thank you, Pastor Myron, What is this favor?”
Myron took a deep breath and silently asked for God’s help. “There’s a young mab on Tsab dealing with a fatal disease, who needs a blood donation and no one on his world will help.”
Yelhsa figured out the rest of the issue on her own, “My blood can help this young man? And you know I lost my husband in the war between our worlds.”
Myron quietly said, “Yes, our Lord would give a blood donation to help a stranger, will you?”
She hesitated and looked away at the direct question. Turning to Kurn she asked, “What do you think?”
Kurn gave the matter a instant of thought, “Yelhsa, I know you understand Scripture enough to know that Christ preached forgiveness. Also, understand that this man likely wasn’t involved in the war effort.. Finally, you recall our Bible study about Joseph?”
She nodded, “His brothers sold him as a slave and he saved them when a famine hit the land. You said,’What man meant for evil God used for good.’”
She looked at Kurn with resolve, “Very well, Pastor Kurn, I will help you and Pastor Myron heal this young man. Pastor Myron, do you think I could meet the Tsab believer?”
Myron knew that it wou;dn’t be easy as there was a lingering distrust between the planets. Aloud he answered, “I can ask, but there’s a high likelihood your request would not be accepted. Still God can do miracles. I will ask if you would be able to travel to Tsab, Qot’s too sick to travel.”
Yelhsa’s face softened into something like gratitude, “That;s all I will ask for my donation. If God opens that door so be it, if not it is His will.”
Myron was too happy that his mission of mercy was successful, and he barely was aware of Yelsha’s response.
