A blind beggar he was
begging by the roadside
at strategic Jericho
the right time, the right place
When Jesus
coming near
He started to scream
Son of David
Have mercy on me.
Many rebuked him
telling him to stay silent
but he cried out all the more
Son of David
Have mercy on me
The greater
He was restrained.
The more eager he became,
He shouted more.
till it caught Jesus’ eyes and ears
I want to be a Bartimeus.
Undeterred by crowd and circumstances
not losing focus on his goal
till he met Jesus
face-to-face
Neither distracted
not disturbed
by the cacophonous crowd
standing in my way
hindering my destiny
Give me the courage.
to stand firm against
the unfriendly tide
that I may not stray
from Your ancient way
Help me to be single-hearted
and resolute
navigate my destiny
fixing my eyes on Jesus
the finisher of the race
Not seeing it yet, believe
is the kind of faith I desire

who have not seen
and yet have believed
