On the cross of Calvary
Once for all, death is vanquished
Hear the Lord’s triumphant cry.
“It is finished,” it is finished,
The work of our redemption done!
All-sufficient, full salvation,
The grace of God, in love, has won.
No more fear of condemnation
Finished, the redeeming deed,
Rescued from a sure damnation
Atoning blood has met our need.
“It is finished,” it is finished,
Hark, the glorious victory cry!
For those who trust in Christ the Savior
Hope and heaven have been brought nigh.
Peace with God, procured forever
And the powers of darkness flee,
“It is finished,” declares the savior
Now the guilty may be set free.
Power of sin and death defeated
Heaven’s doors are opened wide
This need never be repeated
Forever flows mercy’s floodtide.
Naught remains to seal our pardon
Or full forgiveness from our sin,
Saving grace is overflowing
The worst sinner shall mercy win.
Finished, indeed, the work entrusted
By the Father to Christ, the Son
Through the Spirit, love perfected,
Souls purchased and death undone.
