For me, to serve isn’t just something I do; it’s who I want to be. Jesus’ words inspire me deeply:
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 (NKJV)
It is so simple, yet it stands firm against the flesh. Sometimes, it is with kicking and screaming that I know I have to die to my flesh and walk in the Spirit. That means I am a servant. When I serve, I feel closest to His heart.
But serving well often means I must sever things from my life, things like habits, comforts, or attitudes that weigh me down. Sometimes God gently shows me that my hands are too full to help someone else. Letting go isn’t always easy, but it’s freeing.
I also know how quickly my heart veers off course. I begin with good intentions, but without prayer and Scripture, I drift, serving out of routine instead of love. In those moments, God’s Word pulls me back.
There’s always a verse that meets me right where I am. Galatians 5:13 reminds me that service isn’t about proving myself, it’s about letting His love flow through me to others.
Prayer:
Lord, I want my life to reflect You. Help me serve with joy, sever what keeps me from You, stay steady when I veer, and cling to the verses that keep me close to Your heart. In Jesus’ holy Name, amen.
