As a ballerina with a professional company, my lovely arches carried me across stages in Europe, North Africa, and throughout the United States. Each new adventure felt thrilling for a time. But when the novelty wore off, boredom crept in like an unwelcome guest. Why was I never satisfied? Why did this pursuit always leave me empty? Why couldn't I stop being the chaser of some elusive dream?
The search I followed often led to places that could harm me, and some that did. Still, I pressed on, restless and searching. My highly arched feet stayed busy dancing on pointe, striving for perfection, but then life took a turn. Those same feet carried me into the new and sacred roles of wife and mother. I thought I had arrived. I thought the bliss would last forever.
But when it didn't, my wandering feet resumed their chase, and this time, into serious sin. The same pattern repeated, just in different shoes.
I searched the world over for love, joy, and peace, but always came up short. It wasn't until I stopped chasing that I realized something profound: my heart had always been reserved for Jesus. It was Him I had been searching for all along. Only He could satisfy the longing. Only He could still my wandering.
My feet are beautiful now, not because of arches shaped by years of pointe work, but because they have been redeemed. They still carry me to places in my city, my state, my country, and sometimes the world, but now with a new purpose. My steps are different now. They move with peace and direction. They take me to places where I can share the love of Jesus.
No more the chaser, I have found the One my soul longed for. My search is over, and I am finally at rest.
"And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring good news of good things!'" Romans 10:15 (MEV)
What are you chasing that leaves you empty, and how might Jesus be the answer you've been seeking all along?
Pray with me:
"Lord, You know every step I've taken, and every path that's led to dead ends. Thank You for being patient with me in my wandering. I surrender my searching heart to You. Redirect my steps, and let my feet be beautiful in Your sight as they carry Your message of peace to others. In Jesus' name, Amen."
