that I am poor
destitute in Your sight
that I may untether
from my slumber of false contentment
Give me humility
dependence
trust openness
and sincerity
of a child
For You say
Blessed are the poor in spirit
for theirs is the gate
to the Kingdom of Heaven
Help me enter like a child
The road to Your kingdom
is indeed narrow
many are called
but few have chosen
the less traveled route
With nothing I bring
unto Jesus I cling
hungry and thirsty
heavy laden
I come
When I am abused
Help me stay silent
to muse on Christ’s example
He who loves me
and gave Himself for me
The Lord Jesus being God
made himself nothing
taking the form of a servant
humbled obedience
even unto death on a cross
May I be transformed
in humility I abide
drinking the pure stream of obedience
serving You and others
with a servant’s heart
