Do we just sigh
and feel sorry for them
Can we do something
instead of reacting
Do we spare
a thought
for their families
their loved ones
over deaths and hostages
Surely we can pray
for them
and against the dark forces
and wicked spirits behind
the cruel unfair ways
Can we not
rally behind them
in prayers and fasts
to plead
for their safety and witness
Perhaps we can petition
to the authorities
to protect them
from unfair treatment
and hostile acts
May we stand together
and fill the gap
to plead their cause
for intervention
protection and deliverance
As for me
for be it from me
lest I should sin
against the Lord
by failing to pray for you
You’re indeed blessed
when people insult you,
persecute you
and falsely say all kinds of evil
against you because of Christ
May you experience
the lovingkindness of the Father
the presence of the most gracious Lord
and the comforting fellowship
of the Holy Spirit always
God may permit suffering
our choice is to stand firm and fervently
in faith —the golden thread
woven through difficult times
is the Lord’s faithful presence
