wanting its way.
The Holy Spirit whispers, sings a song,
soothing.
Flesh stops to listen, shakes its head,
continues to fight for its way.
The Holy Spirit continues its sweet melody,
seeking to calm and distract from temptation.
Flesh again stops, gets angry,
lashes out in frustration.
The Holy Spirit says quietly,
Whom will you honor, your flesh or God?
Flesh is startled by this small whisper,
struggles still with the temptation.
The Holy Spirit, gentle, voices a Scripture,
long familiar.
I know this verse! Yes, I will honor God
with my body and not give into sin.
Flesh slinks away hoping for
a more opportune time.
The Holy Spirit calms me, helping me remain
strong in the midst of this temptation.
