Sitting cross-legged on her bed, she pulled her Bible off the nightstand and opened it at random. It fell open to one of the gospels. She began to read. As she did, tears welled. They soon coursed down her cheeks as she realized that the Holy Spirit had once again directed her reading. Two verses caught her attention.
“The thief approaches with malicious intent, looking to steal, slaughter, and destroy; I came to give life with joy and abundance. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep in His care.”
Her eyes widened in wonder at how God was meeting her need, her pain, her anguish. She grabbed her journal and pen, writing as quickly as she could as the words flowed into her heart, bringing a peace she didn't think she would ever have again.
The Good Shepherd left His home in heaven for me.
The Good Shepherd took on human flesh for me.
The Good Shepherd walked this earth for me.
The Good Shepherd went through the agony of temptation for me.
The Good Shepherd was denied for me.
The Good Shepherd was betrayed for me.
The Good Shepherd was beaten for me.
The Good Shepherd had a crown of thorns placed on His head for me.
The Good Shepherd died for me.
The Good Shepherd took my sins on Himself for me.
The Good Shepherd had His Father turn His back on Him for me.
The Good Shepherd was buried for me.
The Good Shepherd rose for me.
The Good Shepherd holds me close to His heart.
The Good Shepherd takes care of me, His lamb.
The Good Shepherd shatters the darkness.
The Good Shepherd gives me an abundant and joyful life.
The Good Shepherd is coming to take me to my eternal home someday.
As she finished writing, she whispered a prayer, “Thank you, Jesus, my Good Shepherd, for being here for me in my time of need, and showing me, once again, who You are. Your love for me is beyond my comprehension, but oh, how I thank you for it.”
Putting aside her Bible, journal, and pen, she laid down and slept like she hadn't in a long time, with a smile on her lips, and a song in her heart, as she continued to think about Jesus, her Good Shepherd, who had laid down His life for her.
