My praise to God, my worship, my trust in Him slid sideways as I grieved the loss of all three husbands who I literally idolized. "No more, never again" tumbled through my jangled mind as I thought of never having to justify going to thrift stores for unneeded "stuff" that I loved and cherished. Such treasures, negated by three hubbies who wanted to save money for stuff like electricity and house payments.
I attracted a follower. I was a semi-hysterical stranger, laughing madly and then tear-flooding the dining room. Unexpectedly, I had a "puppy dog." He wouldn't stop pestering me. Why? People started to talk.
I was seventy-nine, barely surviving in an assisted living home - waiting with so many others to just go Home to our wonderful Lord. That I look much forward to - He became my entire life - He was my Husband and I just planned on serving Him - worshipping and adoring Him with whatever gifts He bestowed upon me to win others to Him. (Plus going to thrift stores.) I had no desire nor time to even think of dating again.
I have a lovely position here as a "welcome ambassador" for our large home here. I met this character - mistaking him for another resident - and clumsily backtracked to welcome him to our superb residence. I was my charming, amusing and welcoming self - that day. I was somewhat alive, joying in the annual visit of "Ceasar, the No Drama Lama" https://www.facebook.com/thenodramallama/ who came yearly to cheer us all. This beautiful, affectionate animal pulled me out of myself.
Because of Ceasar, I wound up adopting a puppy dog named Dwight. He became a welcome ambassador. He sat with me, insisting he wanted desperately to learn how to play "Hand and Foot" - again to spend time with me. With his cell phone, he distracted me with crazy memes and crazy animal reels. I was almost thrown off the team. (btw - he is excellent at this game.)
He'd been in a horrific accident, and so he and his delightful mom had recently moved into our huge home. Dwight had terrible post-accident pain, confined to his recliner. He asked his mom to invite me and my sis to their rooms to visit - often. Being a welcome ambassador, I felt that was what was expected of me to make them feel at home. I like to read what I write (golden prose dripping from my pen) and had a receptive audience.
Dwight kept ogling me. He asked if my sis and I would accompany him to dinner and a movie? He took us out many times. He was moving very fast - alarms were banging. How to slow. him down? (I should mention I am eleven years older than he is, and eleven years younger than his mom.) I didn't want to be adored, petted, spoiled, but my sis and I were enjoying their company.
Dwight proposed to me Valentine's Day. We've been married now for almost five months. I absolutely adore him - and I still cannot fathom why he adores me. I tell him it is wrong to adore anyone but our Lord and Savior. I am beyond myself. He cuddles me - unheard of in my prior marriages. He holds me to his breast, and I hear his heart beating and his stomach gurgling, and I finally feel "at home." I am the most delicate, precious flower in his garden. He doesn't scold me, and loves going to thrift stores with me. What did I do to deserve him?
Dwight told me that God told him "There she is, go get her - I made her just for you." Who am I to argue against God? I respect, love, admire and adore Dwight - but I must constantly tell both of us that I will not worship him, because adoration belongs to Him. The answer to how I would serve God alone was answered too - Dwight is a true servant of God, a minister, and - like me, loves God with all our being. He makes me feel God's love to me. I have never met such a kind, loving, funny, intelligent and caring man. Thank you, Father - our daily refrain.
There are no superlatives great enough to magnify our holy Father who gave us His precious Son that we would have life with Them - everlasting.
