“For by faith you have been saved through grace.” My faith does not waver about my salvation. It is my gift from God. The Bible tells me so and and I trust it’s the Holy Spirit that confirms it in my soul. He gives wonderful assurance that my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Yet my faith cannot stop there. It needs to grow. The Bible talks about a small seed providing enough faith to move a mountain. I don’t understand that, even though I believe it’s meaning is true, because Jesus said it. So my faith is solid, albeit, small. Can it grow?
I have birthed three children. While they were in my womb, unborn, my mind was constantly on them. Consciously or unconsciously, my thoughts were never far away from what was being made ready for a future time, months later. I knew growth was happening and my life was never going to be the same. Joy filled my soul in anticipation of each child. Questions constantly pursued my thoughts. Will the child be healthy? Boy or girl? Can I be a good Mom?
My thoughts now are never far away from the faith of our fathers. I’m trying to imagine if there is unborn faith, growing in my soul, like pregnancy, waiting to be birthed. I know I live by faith, not by sight. I suspect faith comes in many sizes, since Jesus referred to faith “. . .even as small as. . .”, implying faith can be small or large. If the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time, is it possible our faith is doing the same thing in our soul. I think I have faith to believe in Jesus because he chose me before creation. Is my responsibility to be a dwelling place for Him, where He can enlarge my faith? What might that look like? The journey of life seems to go through the wilderness with occasional visits to the high places. Each circumstance and experience should perhaps give birth to greater faith, exhibited by trust, praise, thanksgiving, contentment.
I’ve gone through some labor pains of trusting God with the things I don’t understand—losing my husband to Alzheimer’s, worrying my grandchildren will be seduced by this broken, wicked world. The amount of sorrow and suffering mankind must endure gives me pause.
Can I really trust the promises of God? There is so much I don’t understand. I’ve been told the Bible does not contradict itself, but it seems it does. Where is my faith in the pondering? Is it too small? Too questioning?
I think I can trust the apparent contradiction as only a postponement. I love and trust the Lord enough to accept the delay. Since faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen, I trust God’s process to grow my faith.

I really love your allegory referring to "unborn" faith and waiting to birth...
Great way of bringing the topic to life. I'm overly sure that this will be among the "top" list of this weeks entries.
