Topic: Proverbs 17:17 (05/25/23)
Dana was born two years after me. We grew up together in the same house with the same set of rules, ate the same food, and even had the same bedroom. Our childhood was fun and happy. We searched the woods daily for buried treasure and came home when we saw the sunset. We were so dirty that we had to take a bath before we could join the dinner table. One time she cut my hair, which was so terrible that I wore a sock hat, even in summer. That’s ok; I painted her nails and topped them off with glitter. We found sparkles everywhere for weeks.

We had our fights and went several days without speaking until neither of us could stand it. Once the matter was straightened out, we giggled for hours. As children, we were very close, and nothing could separate us.

Then we grew up. I moved away, and Dana remained in our hometown. I embraced a sophisticated yet untamed lifestyle; she remained the original hometown girl. She no longer got me, and I was bored with her.

Years passed. When the wild and chaotic life no longer satisfied me, I gave my heart to Jesus Christ. I went home to Dana to tell her about what my new life in Him was all about, but she was cold. She said,

“Doreen, you messed up and rejected me because I bored you. Now you are telling me that you are a Christ follower! I am glad for you because you needed to change and get yourself together. Me, I am fine the way I am.”

I tried reaching her for Christ, but she would have none of anything I said. It was like oil and water; hence we separated again. My heart hurt not only because she rejected Jesus but because she rejected me.

In Christ, I found I had a new family with many sisters and brothers. We met regularly to pray, study the Bible, and share our stories. My heart was especially knit with Simone. Immediately, we became friends, and in time she came to be my actual sister. We have the same Father! We are those sisters who love each other at all times.

I was closer to Simone than to my blood sister, Dana. I know that she has my back, and I have hers. Our relationship is indeed miraculous. We have very different backgrounds because we are of different races, but the love of Jesus supersedes everything.

I learned that prayer is the greatest thing we can do for anyone; therefore, Simone and I pray together for Dana. The last time I talked with Dana, I saw no change in her heart, but I know my God is directing her life towards him. Someday she will be my sister in Christ! Hallelujah, what a Savior!

I enjoyed reading this very much. Your story no doubt resonates with many women who have the same painful situation.

Our sisters in the Lord are indeed so precious and yiu captured it well.

I love sister stories. My sister and I fought plenty growing up. And now, because we are united in Christ, our time together is a real blessing. It’s wonderful for you to have a special sister ‘in the faith’ who is praying with you for your own sister.
