A bruised reed
He will not break
Neither will He snuff out
a smouldering wick
Our God
is a God of hope
He is a God
of the second chance
for He’s gracious and kind
He lifts up the humble
and those who fumble
and tumble
through no fault
of their own
He will never shun
the weak and the weary
for He’s gentle and patient
like a doting mother who suckles
her young child
Will He give us cookies
when we ask for bread
a grape
instead of an apple
or a pear
He who willingly
gave us His Son—
the best gift to mankind
Will He withhold
what we need most
It’s He who causes the rain
to fall on the just and the unjust
the sun to shine
on the evil and the good
Will He not grant us mercy when we falter
The emotionally drained
and injured
He will never turn away
Like a healing balm
He will restore our pains
Let us draw near
to Him in confidence
believing in His goodness
He gives strength generously
to the tired and weary
