No longer here, but yet I hear your footfall on the stair.
No longer here, and still I hear your melodies so fair.
No longer here, though I still hear sweet nothings in the air,
Your whispered love and passion that expressed your tender care.
No longer here, in mind I hear you sing a lullaby;
No longer here, in mem'ry hear you sooth our child's cry.
No longer here, yet still so clear, I hear the stories read
All snuggled on the sofa and then tucking in to bed.
No longer here, and yet I hear the echoes of the phone;
No longer here to hear you say, "My friend, you're not alone."
No longer here, but warmly hear you passionately pray
For those beloved, and strangers too, at any time of day.
The Spirit's here, I'm glad to hear His still small voice of peace,
Since now I'm here to doctors hear that soon this life shall cease.
Once I am there, no longer here, in Heav'n I too will hear
What you have heard before me, is our Savior's voice dear.
