True little bird,
That where thou art,
Be it Botanies of Eden,
Or Kanamai of Indian Ocean;
Lies the secrecy of mirth.
There on the swaying twig she sat,
And discharged her long bequeathed song.
Sang as though from solfa-book!
With gagging bliss she enchanted
I gazed, I gaped and wished
That several times wider were my ears!
My flesh stirred,
My heart listened,
Then resumed its beating.
Impiety it would be to make a sound.
Enchanted, enchanted I was.
Transient oblivion enveloped me.
A spasmodic trance drowned.
Will noone interpret what she sings?
The chorister of nature,
Her melodies still administered,
I devoured them at impulse rate.
My fill seemed infinite!
To the fitful sound I listened.
With earthly curiosity I gazed,
With earthly ears I listened,
My extra mundane joy intensified.
Was there anything so fair
To mortal ear?
Under my joy’s pressure I thought
My heart would bleed.
I imagined God, too, gazing
At His temporal expertise.
The seraph and cherub I saw
Shrink at their expertise!
And humbled I was to compare –
My hoarse vocals with the minstrel’s.
