I time-travelled yesterday.
Cruising through the days gone by.
I stumbled upon a silly young king,
Who loved only one thing--
Tango.
Prancing in the Great White Hall.
What a silly young king
I had hoped a voyage-- a sailing.
A mission trip, a tour.
I’d be back round for dinner by four.
He played the world at its heartstring,
Rambled about in his youth,
Frolicking here and there nose in the air.
He blundered his nutshell.
He mumbled over math problems, as well--
But tango missteps he mustn’t err.
Tangled two left feet,
Tweedled, twaddled dumb
accepted no defeat,
couldn’t figure out which foot to go first, or split.
Sceptre and golden buckle silly King wore.
Jewelled crown weighed a ton his lofty head bore,
So, he fumbled and fell to a sprawl.
His royal subjects yanked him up,
pretended he didn’t trip-- didn’t flop on his face.
Tango, he loved one thing--
Fought his face red in the Great White Hall.
Silly young King tangoed in his royal robes;
turkey-trotted frivolous round his regal throne.
Faltered, felled away from rules his parents laid:
“You may tango your dream come true
Tango can’t feed your neighbors’ hunger blues.”
The prating foolish king.
His friends, all silly fools as he,
gallivant aimlessly, recklessly.
Didn’t see he plunged his kingdom--
Bungled in miserable jungle.
Got entangled in shame,
tottered down the courtyard, lame.
Quite a turmoil left on his own.
Nowhere to go.
Where was he going?
O, silly King.
I’ve time-traveled in your space and time.
Silly King --- Me!
‘t was I, ‘t was I.
I rambled through the old self from long ago.
‘t was I…
In a moment of folly,
I fell from grace.
What have jaunted my peace?
The devil whispered guilt-trip in my ear.
I say aloud, “Why’re you foraying round my space!
Afraid my King Jesus will hear you, hey?”
I prayed on my knees.
I turned my feet around,
turned back to my Father in Heaven--
No more stumbling back to where I was.
I’ve traversed through battles
Through tangos and woes of life.
Victorious odyssey-- new creature in Christ.
My Lord and King I walk humbly with Him.
Jesus never erred in His promise to keep
His plan of hope for me in years
He orders my steps, one step at a time
His grace never falters.
I journey on
my life’s story moves on.
Right on course His pathway.
No longer the foolish king I was.
Father in Heaven straightens me
In the narrow path
Every step of the way.
Ecclesiastes 4:3 Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.
