TITLE: From God to Me | Previous Challenge Entry

revealing the story of my life and
His story of grace and forgiveness.
It's easy to trace the
highs and lows,
joys and sorrows,
wins and losses;
a winding river valley
running from the mountains
to the ocean.
Some scars run deep
a canyon of grand proportions
while others lie on the surface
a crack in dried mud.
Life thus far
a history of scars:
absentee parents
ridicule at school
embarrassment
shame
lies
blame
teenage angst
acting out
sneaking smokes
gossiping and getting caught
breaking hearts
cruel jokes I played
parenting mistakes
anger untamed
loss
trauma
selfishness
guilt
with another side dish of
shame, shame, shame.
But the river of loss,
sin and shame
is not a stagnant pond:
it is a river
and it moves
through my life
as long as I don’t
dam it up
with condemnation.
Of course I have.
And I’ve allowed others
to add their own downed trees
reinforcing guilt and shame.
But the grace of God
is a dynamic force
and has blown apart
all the dams
by His great love
and His blood
freeing me from
all mistakes
hurt and shame.
So now the river
continuously flows
with healing from
the Throne of Grace
down and through
the shadowy valleys;
the necessary valleys.
Without water;
tears of repentance,
cries for mercy,
His spirit,
no life would flow;
no character could grow.
Stagnation is death.
So my history of hurt,
self inflicted and undeserved,
bears my story,
His story,
of grace and forgiveness;
from God to me
and from me to others.
I come to the banks often
to gather wild flowers
and stones of remembrance.
I need a daily reminder
of grace,
reviewing my history
and His story,
so daily I drink,
a deep draught
of God’s
unconditional love.
From God to me.
Now I can freely
give a cup of cold water
to others.
