but my mind starts
dumping doubts across my path…
To follow Jesus,
to become more like Him,
where would I begin?
I am not worthy
to try to emulate
even the smallest granule
of His love!
Yet, does He not command me to do so?
I watch Him, an inkling
of His truth pushing me,
as I begin to fully grasp His purpose
and know
I must force the first faltering step
out of the vastness
of my thoughtless unconcern
to imitate His all-encompassing,
selfless focus on humanity…
but oh, how I question my ability!
Yet, does He not assure me I am able?
To embark on this journey
will cost me, a very great cost
this I know,
with absolute certainty
I need to examine my sanity,
to forsake all for Him
assuredly seems absurd
but yet to follow Him
feels rational beyond reason,
to set off and lose to gain seems
an acceptable trade-off
but I fear it,
Yet, does He not say to lose for His sake, I save it?
I have supped in sorrow’s kitchen,
enough to know the vile taste of victuals
I now contemplate sharing with Him,
but still I am compelled,
For, did He not say He is the bread of life?
I do not know all that lies ahead if I begin
this walk with Him,
I don’t even fully understand
what may be at stake
if I keep my feet planted where I am,
I just know He has called me
and that call echoes through the whole of me
etching itself across my heart of stone,
carving a feeling there that is like no other,
yet I am allowed the choice to remove it,
But did He not say He is the way, the truth, and the life?
I don’t know how long my brain brewed its worries,
time seemed to stand still
until I realized
my inner world had grown silent,
my skepticism
pierced and stilled
by my own self-shattering whisper,
“yes, yes, Yes Jesus…I will…”
and in that moment
my life began
merging
into His.
