The river of life threw
everything possible
in my lane.
Now I remain
stuck
up to my knees in
alluvial mud.
Then God speaks
Shalom over me.
A spring rain of
Living Water
Shalom:
Completeness
Soundness
Welfare
Peace.
But if Peace is like a
river how can I
trust it?
Won’t it flood over me too?
Won’t it drown me because
I can’t move?
Or will the flood from
Heaven erode the old
to free me for the New?
Then God speaks
Shalom over me.
A spring rain of
Living Water
Shalom:
Completeness
Soundness
Welfare
Peace.
I try to hold the
pieces of my heart
in cupped hands,
lifted as a sacrifice
of praise.
But like river sand
it won’t be held.
Grain by grain it
spills to the ground.
My best effort at
gratitude disintegrates.
Then God speaks
Shalom over me.
A spring rain of
Living Water
Shalom:
Completeness
Soundness
Welfare
Peace.
Finally I quit striving.
I stop trying and
become still and quiet.
Here in the absence of
struggle and effort
I hear the quiet stream
I feel the pasture green
I rest.
Then God speaks
Shalom over me.
A spring rain of
Living Water
Shalom:
Completeness
Soundness
Welfare
Peace.
Yes my God speaks
Shalom over me.
