My dad worked for Braniff Airlines. Because of that my family was able to go anywhere in the US for three dollars intercontinental and twenty-five for Hawaii and Alaska.
I’ve been to every state in these United States including Hawaii three times and Alaska once.
One weekend my family went to New York just to eat lunch and do some "window shopping" (as my mom put it). Came home the same day.
Also, keeping it on four wheels, we drove to Colorado (Rocky Mountain National Park) every year. Ahh, the mountains!
I didn’t appreciate these travels the way I should have. Being young and all. But man, I do now. For I find myself on a different journey these days.
I have been diagnosed with eight herniated discs.
The pain at times is simply beyond words or description. I’m in the process of filing for disability. It’s gotten to that point.
One of the consequences of my condition is that I can’t drive anymore. Nor can I be in the car for any real length of time. It’s just too painful.
There is hope on the horizon, though. With God there is always hope.
I had what’s called radiofrequency ablation, or, a back burn. This is a process where the nerves that are causing the pain are burned, thus eliminating the signals of pain from the nerves to the brain. It usually takes 1 to 3 weeks for it to begin working. I had the procedure a week ago today. If this works, and I’m quoting the doc here, “Maybe you’ll be able to travel again.”
Yes. I’d like that. Very much.
