How to refinish a battered wood laminate jewelry armoire when you really have no idea what you are doing.

STEP 1. Remove all contents. This is important due to the probability of unsightly splotches of varnish inflicted upon a forgotten earring.

STEP 2. Place the armoire in the appropriate environment. Preferably in the out-of-doors. Should you choose to use your bedroom and use newspapers to protect the wood laminate flooring, the paper will stick to the wet chemicals on the legs and will still mar the flooring,

STEP 3. Remove the drawers and handles. This way, it is easier to sand down the previous finish using the electric sander you have no idea how to properly use.

STEP 4. Use liquid stripper to remove previous finish the sanding refused to erase. Make sure the wood dust has been cleared from the area, or it will stick to everything. Use the proper respirator mask to prevent fumes from entering your lungs. WARNING: COVID cloth is useless for this task.

STEP. 5. Apply the new color. Learn the differences between stain and varnish. If you get it wrong, then it is too late.

STEP 6. Clean-up. Discard all brushes and wiping cloths because they will never again become pliable enough to reuse. If you have managed to actually stain said item, the matching blemishes on your skin will remain for the next seven days.

STEP 7. Learn to appreciate a 2-toned piece of furniture.
When the previous finish refuses to vacate the wood, and you are sick of the project, let it dry and resume use. Or discard and purchase a better cabinet for your jewelry.

CAUTION! There is a risk of lost temper, throwing of objects, and smashing the jewelry cabinet. Recommend professional assistance.

Oh, I enjoyed this. It made me chuckle. I thought about furniture restoration, but couldn't come up with an idea to write about it. I'm glad you did. This was a fun read.

A fun article. Reminded me of my efforts to restore kitchen cupboard doors that had been water damaged. Now the wood has an interesting "natural" grain.
