Held in the bondage of sin
Blinded in mind by delusion
What a desperate state he was in!
Darkness was ruling within.
Legion by demons tormented—
What horrors were filling his head?
Shunned as a madman, rejected,
Viewed with revulsion and dread,
Dwelt in the tombs with the dead.
Over the sea sails the Master,
Raging of storm can’t impede
Appointment the Father’s mandated—
A sinner He’s deigned to be freed,
All forces of nature accede.
Out of the tomb Legion ventures
Bows at the feet of the Lord
Who casts out the legion of demons
Into the two thousand strong herd
By the pow’r of His infinite word.
Freed from the bondage of Satan,
Seated and clothed, in sound mind,
This one, long despised and rejected
Is forever in Scripture enshrined,
A witness of grace to mankind.
Blessed release of the captive
Still is the mission of Christ
Frees from the bondage of darkness
Through, His once for all time, sacrifice—
All glory and honour to Christ!
